What wonderful ideas we've had! Thank you, everyone! This is now subdivided in the comments. When you go to comments, you will find each class which has been suggested. Some are ones people offered to teach, some are ones which someone would love to see offered. If you (or your teen, grandparent, etc.) have an interest in teaching or assisting, or even have a good book on the subject which might make someone else feel like they could teach it, please comment as a reply ON THAT IDEA. This will really prepare us for our planning meeting next Friday!

A Story Time type idea- perhaps this could be the basis for a preschool story time? (Story stretchers, Before Five in a Row, Five in a Row)

Two of these resources are more geared to story elementary. I'll bring them on Friday.

Spring would be good, but I shouldn't take on baking and littles abc's at the same time - so whichever is more desired

My son Daniel would like to teach or assist in this class. He would likely find a few good projects off Pinterest or something, which are a little more advanced than the younger woodworking class. It would probably be a best fit for ages 8-12.

My daughter Sara and Malinda's daughter, Jessica would like to teach this. Based on Veritas Press/Classical Conversations history timeline cards, they would learn 160 facts of history in a song, and go over some of the scents every class. At least, they might get through some of them. This class could easily take 2 years! We will want to consider if it should be 2 semesters.

I just looked it up and Apologia offers a Elementary Chemistry/Physics book. I didn't realize it had both subjects. If would be great if someone wants to teach this science to older el. to go along with what their older silblings are doing.

I have a friend that speaks Spanish and is possibly interested in teaching two different levels: elementary and jr hi/highschool. I think we should consider paying at least the $15/student/semester even for those volunteering with the group.

I would be happy to pay for this class. Elissa wants a higher level, homework needed type class to really functionally learn to speak Spanish. Other kids would like that, too. What level would she likely be teaching at?
Hannah

From my friend: For the older class, I'd assume no prior experience, but they'd start speaking the first day, if that helps. 😆 I would certainly intend for it to be a progressive class.

This is a pretty broad category :) It doesn't have to be complex, I heard about a class where the teacher would choose a particular set of animals, bugs or something and the kids would keep a journal and draw pictures of them. They would talk about a few each class. That's so simple, one little book would give you enough material though it's in-depth enough to satisfy a mother, and the kids eat it up. We've done a couple TOPS science books that would be just amazing in class, I'll bring them next week. Is there someone interested in teaching a science class?

I would like to teach one or two music classes. I want to teach one for more experienced students, to get more in-depth theory, practice harmony in singing and get some music composition skills. By the end of the class, they should have written a piece for voice with harmony, which we will sing together, and written a piece for the instrument of their choice. I also would like to teach a class for more beginning students, to begin to read music and enjoy it. This is the same class I did a few years ago. Perhaps I could do the first class first semester, then have some of those kids assist with the second class second semester.

This is Elissa's other "baby". She would love to have this class, because she wants to focus on it. She's willing to teach unless someone else wants to. She would have students learn to write in many different styles as well as practicing some calligraphy, perhaps bringing in some great writers for some classes. I'd bet they'll end up making something cool in the process.
