***The main difference between this class and the class at 9:00 is the speed we will go through things. Tweens are welcome at either class. If your children are uncertain about their drawing skills, they will be more comfortable in the earlier class, where we will go a little slower. If they are confident and able at drawing, they will probably appreciate this one because we will take what we did in the earlier class, but expand it more. Feel free to join either one, based on your preferences. Adults are welcome to join, also!
11:15-11:55
Family Workshop
Coordinator: Felicia M
Ages: All
Cost: None
All homeschooling families are welcome, and this time is always free and requires no signing up to attend. This is a time when we are together as families, and we invite other teachers in, or families to present and share with everyone. We ask that each family in the co-op classes see if you can host or line something up one time in this school year. If your family chooses to do the workshop, you could present something you have been working on at home, a special trip, or a topic you like or have experience in. If you want to line up someone else to present, look around for people who teach or know something that would be fun to share. Consider grandparents or friends who might be willing to come share about things they do. We’re happy to help with ideas, or “fill in” the time with related crafts or activities.
12:00-12:50
Lunch
All homeschooling families are welcome to join us and bring your own lunch. A kitchen available with a microwave and oven for your convenience. Families must clean up after themselves and remove lunch items at 12:45, to allow cleanup crews to put tables and chairs away. This time is always free and requires no signing up to attend, but please mark if you have any serious allergies that we should know about to not bring (such as peanut butter). CURRENT SEVERE ALLERGIES (please don't bring these items at all): Cinnamon, bananas
1:00-2:30
Individual Music Instruction
Guitar and voice, by Anna Hollingsworth, $25/lesson. Call/text 402-871-9594 for details.
STAFF POSITIONS:
***THIS SEMESTER, we’ll have a new chart, and we won’t sign up for these positions until the first day of class. However, you may preview them below to decide what you’d like to do. If the jobs remaining when you sign up aren’t workable for you, please trade with someone, or talk to Felicia.
The staff positions are broken down into about 40 small pieces, and we would like each parent and child 10 and over to take one or two jobs (under 10 is ok to take a job, if parents feel they can). Parents are responsible to check their children’s work. This helps divide it into bite-sized chunks, and make it work out smoothly.
Some jobs are to be done at the beginning, some can be done after lunch, and some after classes. A staff position chart will have the job, the instructions, a place to fill in a name, and a way to flip it to “DONE” when you are finished.
RULES OF CONDUCT
- Supervising: A parent or guardian must stay in the church supervising your children at all times. If you are not able to be with your children on a day (such as sickness in your home) but they are fine to be there, they must have another adult or babysitting-age young adult responsible for them who is not teaching during each class period they are there. People who are assisting with a class are fine to watch them, as they would be able to step out to handle problems. For each person’s safety and to allow our classes to be effective, there must always be someone in charge of each child.
- Outside: Children should have parents with (or permission if above 12) to be outside. Don’t allow children to climb on railings, or to run around the outside of church without you.
- Personal Items: There are tables in the gym available to place your extra personal items. Please use this space. Cleaning crews will place lost or misplaced items there at the end of the day. Crafts and pictures left behind will be donated. A small lost and found container is in our cabinet.
- Difficulties: If your children are becoming disruptive to a group, please be aware and take them aside. Be aware of your children’s behavior if they are playing while you visit. We often have children with special needs, and we want each one to feel welcomed and respected. If your child is having difficulties getting along, consider staying in the same room as them or having them change activities. And don’t hesitate to let other parents know if you see tension arising, so we can stop it early!
- Children not in a class: If a child is above 12, he or she may study or relax in the lunch room. Younger children need an adult who will be responsible for them, or they may stay with parents. Parents may supervise the use of supplies from the cabinet for coloring and games at tables. The gym is sometimes available, and rooms not in use are available for students or families to study in the extra times (please note children may not be in a room without an adult, though).
- Play Areas: The gym and lunch room are the main areas where we may visit and play. An adult must be present for children to play in these rooms. Please be aware of how your children are playing, and watch out for little ones. Toys in the gym must stay there. Toys in the lunchroom are reserved for young children, for in that area only. Adults, you may be asked by children to accompany them so they can play, please consider helping take turns with this during free times. The side classrooms are for use during classes only.
- Lunch: The kitchen has a microwave and oven available for lunch use. Please keep all food in the lunch room, not in gym or classrooms. If you forgot items such as plates, we have a kitchen supply box in the cabinet available for use. Do not use the church’s disposable goods, and if you use their dishes, wash them and put them away BEFORE 1:00. Clear lunch items, table places and chairs, and move items either to your car or to the “Personal Items” tables at 12:45. Our goal is that the kitchen and eating areas be left clean when the meal time is over (1:00).
- “Door Rule”: This is for the kids- If the door is open, leave it open. If the door is closed, leave it closed. The doors are heavy fire doors, and easy to get hurt on, and this helps prevent inappropriate behavior and cliques as well.
- Gaming Devices: Due to the nature of many games and internet content and our wide age range, do not bring gaming devices or use phones to play during our group time. Please use this time to develop relationships, and save games for another time.
- Assistants: Please assist, provide crowd control and help where the teacher needs. Help teachers return class to its original state when the class is finished. You may be asked to substitute, should the teacher be unable to teach. He or she will provide you with details needed for that. If you are not assisting in a class, you are a hall monitor, and are responsible to help keep an eye on anyone not in classes, such as taking bathroom trips. You are also on a substitute list to be called on if there is a great need.
- Please be respectful of the church’s property. We are so thankful to be able to meet here. Let’s let them know by our behavior!
- The Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God and constitutes His completed and final revelation to man. The Bible in its original autograph is without error in whole and in part, including theological concepts as well as literal geographical and historical details, from a six day creation to the physical return of Christ. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21; Genesis. 1:1; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
- God has existed from all eternity in three persons God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ was God come in human flesh being fully God and fully man, except without sin. (Genesis 1:1; John 1:1-2; John 10:30, 37- 38; Hebrews 4:15)
- All men are in violation of God's righteous requirements and His holy character both by nature and act, and are therefore under His wrath and just condemnation. (Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:2)
- The central purpose of the coming of Jesus Christ was to pay the penalty for man's sin through His substitutionary death on the cross, the successful accomplishment of which was attested to by His subsequent visible, bodily resurrection. ( 1 Corinthians 15:3-7; Hebrews 7:26-27; 1 Peter 3:18)
- Salvation is offered as a gift, free to the sinner. This gift must be responded to in individual faith, not trusting in any personal work whatsoever, but in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ alone. (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9)
- God created human beings male and female from the beginning, only those two genders. One of these biological genders, which are identifiable by chromosomes, is assigned by God to each individual at the moment of conception and cannot be changed. Marriage is the union of two people, one male and one female, according to God’s plan and design. (Genesis 1: 27, 2:18, 2:21-24; Ephesians 5:23-32; 1 Corinthians 7:1-2; Psalm 139:13)
